Improve Your Operating System Speed With Windows Tools

Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter and two system tools from Microsoft, which are designed to enhance the performance of your computer and arrange the files in it. According to Microsoft help & support center, it is advisable that you run both these programs occasionally so that you can make sure that your Windows operating system runs smoothly. In this post, we will find out how to run these programs.

Disk Cleanup

The disk cleanup utility is designed to remove the junk files from your computer. In order to run this tool, follow the steps below.
  • Open the Start menu and go to the option All Programs.
  • From the new sub menu, place the mouse over the option Accessories.
  • The above step opens a new sub menu. From this menu, choose the option System Tools.
  • Under System Tools, locate Disk Cleanup and click it to launch the program.
  • The first window of the Disk Cleanup window asks you to choose the drive that you wish to clean up. From the drop down list of the disks in your computer, choose any one and click OK.
  • As the next step, the program will calculate how much space it would be able to free up after the cleanup.
  • Once this scan is finished, a new window comes up that shows you the size you can free up from a particular drive.
  • You may choose the button View Files to go through the selected files and uncheck the files that you do not want to remove.
  • Once you have gone through the files, click OK and this opens a new window that asks you to confirm the selection. Select Yes and this will begin the cleanup process.
  • Restart the computer when the process is over.
Disk Defragmenter

This tool is designed to arrange files in the drives. This will improve the speed of accessing files. Follow the steps below to run the program.
  • Open the Start window and click All Programs. 
  • Choose Accessories and then System Tools. 
  • From the different options, select Disk Defragmenter. 
  • In the Disk Defragmenter window, select the option Defragment after choosing the drive. 
  • Restart the computer when finished.
